Announced by CIPO last June, the amendments to the Canadian Patent Rules officially came into force on October 3, 2022. These new rules introduce excess claim fees and new procedures and fees for filing a Request for Continued Examination (RCE), that will apply to all Canadian patent applications for which examination has not been requested before the coming into force date.

Topics to be discussed include:

  • Managing Canadian cases within global patent portfolios
  • New timelines for prosecution of Canadian patent applications
  • Using voluntary amendments and other available features of Canadian patent practice to minimize costs
  • Mitigating risks associated with double-patenting issues under Canadian law.

Moderator

  • Jocelyn Ram, Fountainhead Law Group P.C., United States
