    Join us for a lively discussion on the practical realities of international patent enforcement. Litigation experts from the U.S., China, Germany and Canada will share their experience and know-how on how to go about every step of the process when a client's patent rights are being infringed in several countries.


    Felix Klopmeier is a German attorney-at-law and Partner of Lang & Rahmann, a law firm originally founded in the year 1985 and since then located in Düsseldorf (Germany). The firm specialized in servicing foreign commercial clients, in particular in the fields of M&A, commercial issues and IP. Felix holds a doctorate in law (for a thesis on patent damages) and did a post-graduate LL.M. in Intellectual Property. After his work as a research assistant at the University of Düsseldorf’s IP department for several years, he joined an international law firm, before moving on to Lang & Rahmann. He represents some multinational companies in IT and IP issues, with a particular expertise in IP litigation for international clients in Germany. Felix heads INTERLAW’s worldwide NextGen program and is a member of their IP/IT special business team. He is also a board member of the Association of Intellectual Property Firms (AIPF).

    Lisa Phillips is a partner at Rothwell Figg, an intellectual property firm in Washington, DC.  Ms. Phillips focuses her practice on litigation, and handles cases covering pharmaceutical, medical device, biotechnology and chemical technologies, among others, with particular expertise in Hatch-Waxman litigation.  She has extensive experience handling all aspects of patent litigation in U.S. district courts, patent interference and IPR proceedings before the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), investigations before the U.S. International Trade Commission, and subsequent appeals of district court and PTAB decisions. 

    Stephen Yang is a Chinese patent attorney and managing partner with Co-Talent Intellectual Property, an IP law firm in China. His practice area covers patent preparation, prosecution, invalidation and litigation in mechanics, electronics, energy and high tech areas. He also has extensive experience with design practice. He began to practice patent law in 1997 and worked at a number of Chinese IP law firms in Beijing, China and in-house in Toronto, Canada. Stephen received double Bachelor’s degrees from Tsinghua University in China and Master’s degree from University of Toronto in Canada in mechanical and industrial engineering. He also received training in US patent law in 2005. Stephen is a frequent speaker on topics in intellectual property law and published many articles. He is the lead author of the patent chapter of the book "IP Protection in China", published by ABA Publishing in 2015. Stephen is a member of AIPPI China, LES China and All-China Patent Agents Association (ACPAA).

    Alexandra Steele specializes in all areas of litigation related to intellectual property, including patents, trade-marks, copyright, industrial designs and unfair competition. Recognized for her practical approach to managing all aspects of the litigation practice, including trials and dispute resolution, she also regularly appears before the Québec Courts and the Federal Courts of Canada and is an accredited mediator in civil and commercial matters with the Québec Bar.  She is a frequent author and speaker on intellectual property matters. She is currently a member of the Patent Subcommittee of the Association of Intellectual Property Firms (AIPF).
